Published Reach 37

Tongyi Lab just open-sourced Qwen-Image-2512, an upgraded text-to-image foundation model designed to eliminate the artificial "AI look." The update renders granular human details like wrinkles and pores, sharpens animal fur, and notably boosts text rendering accuracy for complex infographics and presentation slides.

Qwen-Image-2512 is an open-source text-to-image foundation model from Tongyi Lab, designed specifically to ditch the generic "AI look" in favor of genuine photorealism.

Sharper textures and reliable layout text

The December release focuses on three major visual upgrades. For portraits, it captures granular facial features like wrinkles and pores while keeping human body postures natural and anatomically consistent.

Natural scenes and complex textures are also significantly cleaner. The model accurately renders misty waterfalls, sprawling landscapes, and individual strands of animal fur without melting into blurry artifacts.

The biggest practical jump is text rendering. Instead of generating scrambled gibberish, Qwen-Image-2512 sharpens textual accuracy enough to output professional-grade layouts, including dense infographics and clean presentation slides.

Why it matters

Open-source image models usually trip over the same two hurdles: waxy skin and unreadable text. By tackling photographic fidelity and layout typography directly at the foundation model level, Tongyi Lab is making open weights far more viable for creators, marketers, and developers building design tools.

How easily it integrates into daily workflows will ultimately hinge on community benchmarks around compute overhead and multi-language font support.
