Superhuman puts email replies on autopilot
Superhuman just launched Instant Reply, a feature that precomputes three complete draft replies for every incoming email. Unlike basic short suggestions, these are full responses tailored to match your personal tone, ready to send with just Tab and Enter. Early testers reportedly replied twice as fast.
Staring at an empty reply box and wondering how to politely phrase a decline is a universal workplace tax.
Superhuman unveiled its latest Superhuman AI feature called Instant Reply, aiming to eliminate that blank-page friction entirely.
Instead of waiting for you to ask for a draft, the system writes them in advance.
Three ready-to-send drafts waiting under every thread
Whenever you open an email conversation, Superhuman now presents three fully drafted replies right at the bottom.
Unlike Gmail's short predictive snippets, these are complete, context-aware emails ready to send.
Unlike Outlook's on-demand copilots, these responses are precomputed in the background, meaning there is zero spinning wheel or latency when you open a message.
True to Superhuman's keyboard-first design, you simply hit Tab to pick a draft and Enter to send it. Like the rest of Superhuman AI, the drafts automatically adopt the tone and voice of your previously sent emails.
According to CEO Rahul Vohra, tests with thousands of early users showed people replying twice as fast as before. Many users also started answering messages they previously would have ignored, simply because editing an existing draft takes far less willpower than writing from scratch.
The feature was built in close collaboration with OpenAI, whose COO Brad Lightcap endorsed the partnership as part of their broader effort to streamline workplace communication.
Why it matters
We think this is one of the smartest UI shifts for generative AI in productivity software so far.
Most current AI implementations force you into a multi-step routine: open the tool, click an AI icon, type a prompt, wait a few seconds, review, and insert. That friction often negates the time saved for short correspondence.
By precomputing full responses and putting them one keystroke away, Superhuman effectively turns you from a writer into an editor. For executives, sales leads, and founders drowning in high-volume inboxes, that difference is enormous.
However, the approach also introduces real risks.
When sending an email takes just two keystrokes, muscle memory can easily bypass critical thinking. If an AI hallucinates a commitment or misjudges context, a distracted user might fire it off before noticing.
Still, if you already pay for Superhuman, Instant Reply is easily one of the most compelling reasons to keep your subscription active.
