Slack's new AI takes notes on your huddles and recaps long threads
Slack just launched four new built-in AI features designed to cut down workplace busywork, starting with automatic thread summaries and instant notes from huddle calls. The AI toolkit is now available across all paid tiers, with higher plans getting broader access. Upcoming updates will also define company jargon on hover and extract action items directly from task mentions.

If you spend half your workday catching up on Slack threads or scribbling notes during quick huddles, relief might finally be here.
On Thursday, Slack announced four new AI features baked straight into the platform. The company is pitching the bundle as a background assistant designed to wipe out routine busywork.
Among the new tools are automatic thread summaries and AI-generated notes from huddle audio calls, letting you skip the manual recap after a quick chat.
Deciphering company slang and auto-logging tasks
Slack also teased several other features heading to the platform soon.
One of the most practical additions will let you hover over unfamiliar acronyms or corporate jargon to get an instant AI explanation, trained on your company's own chat history and internal vernacular.
Task tracking is also getting an upgrade. When a teammate tags you in a message with a specific deadline and deliverable, Slack will automatically drop a custom AI action item into your activity feed.
Inside Canvas, Slack's shared workspace, AI will soon suggest writing improvements. A new profile summary tool will also give you a quick dossier on new teammates, highlighting their primary role and recent contributions.
To tie it all together, Slack is introducing a unified files view. Instead of endlessly scrolling back through months of chat channels, you will be able to see every shared canvas and document in one dedicated hub.
These AI features are currently available across all paid Slack plans, from Pro and Business+ up to Enterprise+, though the most advanced capabilities are locked behind the highest tier.
Why it matters
For anyone living in Slack all day, these quality-of-life updates cut directly into daily friction. Surfacing internal slang definitions and auto-creating to-dos from chat mentions solve actual workplace annoyances without forcing you to switch tabs.
On the industry side, Slack is playing defense in a crowded enterprise arena. Microsoft, Google, Zoom, and Box have all rushed to build AI summaries into their tools, while OpenAI is reportedly prepping its own workplace software. Slack simply cannot afford to let collaboration rivals hold an AI edge.
We think Slack is smart to focus on lightweight, ambient AI that blends into regular UI habits rather than demanding dedicated prompts.
However, gating the most powerful capabilities behind Enterprise+ might frustrate smaller teams on Pro tiers, who may feel like second-class citizens while paying the same AI tax.
