Skywork open-sources Matrix-Game 2.0 interactive world model

Published Reach 45

Skywork just launched Matrix-Game 2.0, introduced as the first open-source, real-time, long-sequence interactive world model. While DeepMind kept last week's Genie 3 behind closed doors, Skywork is making its model fully open-source, delivering 25FPS rendering and minutes-long interactions.

Matrix-Game 2.0 is an open-source, real-time interactive world model from Skywork that lets you generate dynamic environments on the fly.

While DeepMind turned heads last week with Genie 3, it kept the model firmly behind closed doors. Skywork is taking the opposite route by making Matrix-Game 2.0 fully open-source.

What it can do

The model runs at 25FPS in real time and can maintain continuous interactions lasting several minutes.

That matters because interactive world models typically struggle to balance instant frame-by-frame responsiveness with long-term memory. Sustaining coherence over minutes at playable frame rates is where most existing experiments fall apart.

Why it matters

Interactive world models are the latest frontier in generative AI, but closed demos leave developers looking from the outside in.

Skywork making Matrix-Game 2.0 open-source gives researchers and game developers a tangible baseline to inspect and build on. We think its real-world performance on consumer hardware still needs verification, but having an open model to compete with proprietary labs is a welcome development.
