Samsung teases a smarter Galaxy AI companion for the Galaxy S25

Published Reach 31

Samsung just dropped a teaser video hinting at major AI upgrades for the upcoming Galaxy S25. In the demo, the AI handles a multi-step spoken request—finding a specific restaurant, messaging a contact, and updating the calendar all at once. The "true AI companion" will officially debut at Galaxy Unpacked on January 22.

If you have ever tried asking your phone assistant to handle more than one simple task at a time, you already know the pain. You usually end up repeating yourself, giving up, and just tapping through three different apps manually.

Samsung wants you to think those days are finally behind us. With its Galaxy Unpacked event just eight days away on Wednesday, January 22, the company dropped a teaser video promising that "a true AI companion is coming," complete with the Galaxy AI branding.

In the clip, a woman gives the AI an absolute mouthful of natural, rambling instructions. She says she is off to her next meeting, needs to find an Italian restaurant with outdoor seating that is pet-friendly, wants that info sent to Luca, and asks to add it to her calendar, all in one continuous breath.

Most current mobile assistants would choke on that prompt. Here, the AI takes it all in stride.

Bixby is finally growing up

To pull off that request, the system has to do some heavy lifting behind the scenes. It needs to read her schedule, understand her dining tastes, filter out spots that allow pets and have outdoor patios, pull up Luca in her contacts, dispatch the message, and log an entry into the calendar.

Historically, Bixby has been the butt of endless jokes for lagging miles behind Google Assistant. But this teaser points to a massive overhaul. In fact, a next-generation version of Bixby has already rolled out to Samsung devices in China, meaning a worldwide rollout alongside the Galaxy S25 lineup is virtually guaranteed.

Because the software is already running on current hardware in China, it probably does not strictly rely on the Galaxy S25's unannounced processor. That leaves the door open for older Galaxy flagships to receive the upgrade, though less powerful chips might see a performance dip.

Why it matters

For everyday smartphone users, this is the exact upgrade mobile AI has desperately needed. We do not need more wallpaper generators or novelty photo erasers; we need an assistant that can bridge the annoying gaps between our messaging, maps, and calendar apps without forcing us to manually copy and paste details back and forth.

For the broader industry, Samsung is turning up the heat on both Apple and Google. Google has already shown off fluid back-and-forth conversational capabilities with Gemini, but getting an AI agent to execute multi-app workflows reliably on a phone is still the holy grail. If Samsung ships this out of the box on the Galaxy S25 while Apple is still slowly rolling out Apple Intelligence features, it secures a serious head start in consumer perception.

We think this positioning is clever, but marketing demos are notorious for hiding real-world friction. It looks effortless in a thirty-second promotional clip, yet handling real-world ambiguity, like duplicate contacts, spotty mobile reception, and app permission barriers, will determine whether this companion actually saves time or just creates new frustrations.
