Roblox adds a TikTok-style feed and AI that generates drivable cars

Roblox just announced a short-form gameplay feed called Moments alongside new creator AI tools at its developer conference. Creators can soon prompt fully functional 3D items like drivable cars rather than static meshes, plus tap into real-time voice chat translation and speech APIs.

Roblox just brought TikTok straight inside its metaverse.

At this year's Roblox Developers Conference (RDC), the company unveiled "Roblox Moments," a native short-form video feed built specifically for sharing gameplay clips. The feature is rolling out in beta to users aged 13 and older, and it looks suspiciously familiar to anyone who has ever used TikTok or Reels.

Players can capture in-game moments, trim them down to 30 seconds, drop in some background music, add a caption, and publish them to a scrollable feed. Viewers can react with emojis, but the real kicker is the instant-play button: you can jump straight into the exact experience featured in the video with a single tap.

Roblox plans to release APIs later this year so creators can build in-game leaderboards and discovery feeds, like showcasing the cleanest drift in a racing game.

Smart AI assets and more cash for devs

AI creation on Roblox is also growing up fast. Instead of spitting out useless, static 3D decorations, the new generation tools can generate functional 3D items from natural language prompts, starting with vehicles and weapons.

Prompt the system for a sleek futuristic sports car, and you do not just get a decorative mesh; you get a drivable vehicle with functional physics and doors that open. On top of that, new text-to-speech APIs provide 10 English voice presets for NPC dialogue, while speech-to-text lets players shout commands like "Fire!" to trigger in-game cannons.

Next year, real-time voice chat translation will automatically convert live conversations across English, Spanish, French, and German.

To keep top talent around, Roblox bumped its DevEx exchange rate by 8.5%. Creators now cash out 100,000 Robux for $380, up from $350. The company noted that average annual earnings for its top 1,000 developers hit nearly $1 million, a 2.9-fold increase compared to 2020.

Under the hood, a new Server Authority networking model is aimed at stomping out cheaters, while avatars are getting realistic climbing, vaulting, and finger-grasping animations.

Why it matters

We think Roblox Moments is a brilliant growth loop. Getting users to download a game from a TikTok ad is notoriously leaky. Embedding an algorithmic clip feed directly inside the client turns entertainment into an instant conversion funnel. One tap, zero load screens, and you are playing.

Generating fully interactive 3D objects moves generative AI past the toy stage. Writing vehicle controllers and physics rigging usually burns dozens of hours for indie developers. If prompts can handle the plumbing, solo devs can prototype entire games in an afternoon.

Still, moderation remains the elephant in the room. Roblox is navigating heavy legal pressure over child safety. While every video reportedly faces pre-moderation alongside new age-estimation tech and IARC ratings, managing millions of UGC gameplay clips without exposing kids to toxic behavior is an uphill battle.
