Replit gives its AI agent a task queue

Published Reach 38

Replit just rolled out Queue, a new feature for Replit Agent that lets developers stack up instructions while the agent is actively writing code. You can reorder queued prompts, attach files, and even swap underlying AI models or toggle extended thinking for individual tasks. It turns the awkward waiting game into an uninterrupted coding pipeline.

Anyone who has built software with an AI coding agent knows the waiting game: you prompt the model, wait for it to run tests and debug, while keeping the next three steps trapped in your head so you do not derail its train of thought.

Batching your instructions on the fly

Replit just rolled out a new feature called Queue for Replit Agent to smooth out that workflow.

Instead of waiting around for the agent to finish its current job, you can now stack multiple tasks in line. The agent will finish what it is doing and automatically roll right into the next task without breaking stride.

Replit also made the queue flexible. You can edit messages, reorder them, or bump up their priority before the agent picks them up.

Even better, settings are customizable per task. You can attach specific files, switch the underlying model, or toggle extended thinking on and off depending on how complex each individual step is.

Why it matters

This small UX shift turns the agent from a turn-based chatbot into an asynchronous teammate.

For builders, staying in flow is everything. Queueing up tasks means you can dump your mental roadmap into the system and let the AI grind through the pipeline while you focus elsewhere. The risk, of course, is cascading errors: if step one goes off the rails, subsequent queued tasks might compound the mistake before you catch it. Still, we think per-task model switching and fine-grained controls make this one of the smartest agent workflow updates we have seen recently.
