Qwen Chat rolls out Deep Research to everyone

Published Reach 40

Alibaba's Qwen Chat just launched its Deep Research feature for the general public following weeks of testing. Users provide a topic, answer a quick follow-up question to narrow the scope, and let the model generate a comprehensive report. Why it matters: Autonomous research agents are rapidly shifting from exclusive enterprise tools to standard, free chatbot capabilities.

Automated background research just got a lot more accessible. After a few weeks of phased testing, Alibaba has officially made its Deep Research feature available to everyone on Qwen Chat.

Clarify first, research second

Getting started is straightforward. If you ask a broad topic like "Tell me something about robotics," Qwen will not just dump a generic summary on your screen. Instead, it asks clarifying questions to narrow down your focus, whether you want historical context, theoretical grounding, or real-world use cases. If you are undecided, you can simply tell it to surprise you.

Once the scope is locked in, the model handles the heavy lifting in the background while you take a quick break or grab a coffee. It then compiles the findings into a structured report designed for work, studying, or general curiosity.

Why it matters

Automated deep research is rapidly becoming table stakes across major AI assistants following OpenAI's push into the space. For students and everyday knowledge workers, having a free agent that synthesizes topics without requiring hours of manual web browsing is a genuine time-saver.

We think the interactive step of narrowing down queries upfront is smart—it prevents the agent from burning compute on the wrong angle. Alibaba's decision to roll this out broadly pushes Qwen Chat further from a simple chatbot into a real productivity workspace. The real test now is whether its report depth and citation accuracy hold up against tough queries.
