Published Reach 34

Picsart just launched its new AI Avatar feature, allowing creators to turn a few uploaded selfies into stylized portraits across looks like Anime and Superhero. Users can immediately polish the results with Picsart's built-in background removal and enhancement tools. It gives mainstream creators an easy on-ramp to trending avatar generators right inside their existing editor.

If your social media feeds look like everyone suddenly turned into an anime character or a comic book superhero, you are not alone. Personalized AI portraits are everywhere right now, and now one of the biggest creative apps on mobile wants a piece of the action.

Picsart just rolled out its new generative AI feature, dubbed AI Avatar, bringing custom portrait generation directly to its massive community of creators.

From a few selfies to personalized art

The workflow will feel familiar if you have been watching the trend. Users upload several selfies into the Picsart mobile app, and the underlying machine learning models process the facial features to churn out a batch of stylized portraits.

Picsart is launching with a variety of preset themes, including Holiday Cheer, Superhero, Anime, and Main Character Energy. According to Picsart Chief Product Officer Mikayel Vardanayan, the ability for artificial intelligence to create completely new portraits of a person in minutes was practically unheard of a year ago.

The avatars are designed for quick social profile pictures, digital holiday greeting cards, or even personalized marketing assets for small businesses and independent creators.

The advantage of full editing suites

Picsart is not the first app to offer avatar generation, but its key differentiator is what happens after the images are created. Instead of just exporting a static JPEG, users can immediately pull their generated avatars into Picsart's existing editing toolkit.

That means you can run one-click cutout tools like BG Remove, clean up details using AI Enhance, or swap environments with AI Background and AI Replace.

AI Avatar joins a rapidly growing lineup of generative features on the platform. Picsart recently shipped its AI Image Generator and AI Writer. According to the company, the image generator has already created more than 30 million images, with users currently generating over one million new images every single day.

Why it matters

In our view, Picsart's move highlights how generative AI is shifting from standalone viral novelties into integrated feature sets within broader design platforms.

Apps that only do AI avatars often suffer from brutal churn: people pay once, get their cool profile picture, and delete the app. Picsart avoids that trap because it is already a workflow hub. By treating the AI avatar as raw material that feeds directly into their existing cutouts, filters, and background-swap tools, Picsart gives creators a reason to stick around.

For creators and small businesses, it is an accessible way to build branded visual assets without hiring an illustrator. The potential catch, however, lies in face data privacy concerns and the fact that stylized avatar fatigue sets in fast. Picsart will need to keep innovating beyond viral novelty to keep users coming back.
