Perplexity lands landmark U.S. government AI deal
Perplexity just signed a direct government-wide contract with the U.S. General Services Administration, offering federal agencies its enterprise platform at essentially no cost for up to 18 months. Public servants can now tap into Sonar, GPT, Claude, and Gemini from a single interface, sidestepping vendor lock-in while fast-tracking security compliance.

Perplexity just pulled off a massive enterprise coup, and it is doing it on Uncle Sam's dime—or rather, its own dime for the next year and a half.
The AI search company signed a first-of-its-kind direct, government-wide contract with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). The deal opens up its enterprise platform to every federal agency and servicemember across the country.
18 months free, all the top models included
Under the partnership, federal agencies can acquire Enterprise Pro for Government through GSA's Multiple Award Schedule (MAS IT) at essentially no cost for up to 18 months. Perplexity also locked in long-term pricing commitments to keep things predictable down the line.
The rollout aligns with President Trump's AI Action Plan and GSA's OneGov strategy. Perplexity notes that tens of thousands of federal workers are already using its tools organically, but this agreement formalizes enterprise access directly from the source.
Instead of pitching a proprietary walled garden, Perplexity is playing the multi-model aggregator card. Federal users get access to Perplexity Sonar, OpenAI's GPT, Anthropic's Claude, and Google's Gemini in one interface, backed by internal agency data and web-scale retrieval. If one model hiccups or falls out of compliance, agencies can simply flip a switch.
Security is the usual bottleneck in Washington, but Perplexity managed to jump the line. It is currently one of only two services designated by the government for AI Prioritization, allowing it to speed through the FedRAMP authorization pipeline via a cloud-native 20x pathway.
Why it matters
We think this is one of the smartest land-grab plays any AI company has made in the public sector.
Breaking into federal procurement usually takes years of hand-to-hand sales combat across individual departments. By cutting a single government-wide deal with the GSA and offering the product for free for up to 18 months, Perplexity effectively removes all friction for agencies wanting frontier AI right now.
Positioning itself as model-agnostic is the real kicker. While tech giants like Microsoft and Google push their respective ecosystems, Perplexity addresses the government's biggest fear: getting locked into a single provider. Agencies get Claude, GPT, and Gemini in one compliant wrapper.
The obvious question is what happens after month 18. Absorbing 18 months of multi-model API calls for the entire federal workforce is an expensive bet. Perplexity is wagering that by the time the bill arrives, civil servants will be so hooked on the workflow that walking away will be politically and operationally impossible.
