Perplexity rolls out proactive agents called Teammates
Perplexity just started rolling out Teammates, its new proactive agents, to Perplexity Max subscribers on the web. They operate in an isolated environment with memory, tool calling, and the ability to execute computer tasks. Mobile app support is coming soon.
Perplexity wants to do more than just search the web for you—it wants to do your actual work.
The AI search company has started rolling out a new feature called Teammates to Perplexity Max subscribers on the web, introducing proactive agents that can handle tasks on your behalf.
An AI coworker in a sandbox
According to TestingCatalog, Teammates operate inside an isolated environment. They come equipped with memory, tool calling, built-in skills, and the ability to execute computer tasks directly.
Instead of just returning answers, these agents are built to take action inside a secure container. While the rollout is currently limited to web users on the Max tier, mobile app support is slated to arrive soon.
Why it matters
Perplexity is clearly pushing beyond answer engines into autonomous agent workflows. Giving an AI agent the ability to execute computer tasks inside an isolated sandbox is a smart move that addresses security concerns while significantly expanding what the product can do.
That said, locking it behind the premium Max subscription means it is strictly for power users for now. Whether it proves indispensable depends entirely on how reliably these teammates can complete multi-step tasks without constantly needing a human in the loop.
