Perplexity rolls out an AI email assistant for $200/month Max subscribers

Published Reach 58

Perplexity just launched Email Assistant, an AI tool exclusively for its $200-a-month Max subscribers to schedule meetings, prioritize inboxes, and draft replies across Gmail and Outlook. Users simply email a dedicated assistant address to assign tasks, and Perplexity claims the AI mimics personal writing styles without training on private email data.

If you are already spending half your workday drowning in unread threads and calendar invites, Perplexity wants in on your inbox. But it will cost you.

The AI search company has introduced a new feature called Email Assistant, built to take over routine inbox chores. It is available right away, but there is a major catch: you have to be paying for the company's $200-a-month Max plan, which launched in July.

Delegating the inbox via email

The assistant handles basic day-to-day email tasks, including scheduling meetings, organizing and prioritizing incoming messages, and drafting replies.

At launch, support is limited to Gmail and Outlook.

Instead of making you navigate a separate web dashboard, the workflow is dead simple. Once enrolled, users can interact with the assistant simply by emailing a dedicated Perplexity assistant address.

Perplexity emphasized that it does not use your emails to train its models. However, it does analyze and adopt your personal writing style when generating draft replies so the outgoing messages sound like you.

Why it matters

Perplexity is no longer content with just answering web search queries; it is actively pushing into full personal assistant territory and gunning straight for daily enterprise workflows.

For executives, founders, and heavy email communicators, an assistant that reliably clears scheduling friction and drafts in their tone could easily justify the steep subscription. For everyone else, $200 a month makes this completely irrelevant as a consumer tool.

Strategically, this is an audacious move on Google and Microsoft home turf. Both tech giants have deeply embedded Gemini and Copilot into Workspace and Outlook. Perplexity choosing to bypass complex integrations by simply chatting over email is a remarkably clever, low-friction entry.

The clear risk, however, is reliability. Trusting an outside AI agent with sensitive correspondence and tight schedules leaves zero room for hallucinated dates or tone-deaf replies. Perplexity needed to give its ultra-premium tier real utility, and while an email butler fits the bill, holding onto those high-paying users will depend entirely on how flawless it runs.
