Perplexity just supercharged its research engine.

Taking on every research tool

Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas announced that the company is rolling out an Advanced version of Perplexity Deep Research.

According to Srinivas, the upgraded tool achieves state-of-the-art performance on both internal and external benchmarks. He claims it beats every competing deep research tool on accuracy, usability, and reliability across all verticals.

That said, Srinivas kept the rollout note brief and did not share specific benchmark scores or side-by-side comparison data in his post.

Why it matters

The AI search race has quickly shifted from rapid Q&As to orchestrating rigorous, multi-step research reports that take real legwork.

We think Perplexity is moving aggressively to protect its territory as autonomous research agents become the central battleground. For analysts, consultants, and knowledge workers buried under hours of desk research, an upgrade that claims superior cross-domain reliability is worth testing immediately.

Still, claiming victory over every rival without publishing the underlying benchmark data leaves room for skepticism. Until external researchers put this Advanced version through messy, real-world workflows, it remains to be seen whether it truly outclasses the field or just raises the marketing stakes.
