OpenAI drops gpt-realtime-1.5 to boost voice agent reliability
OpenAI just added gpt-realtime-1.5 to its Realtime API to level up speech-to-speech interactions. The new model brings more reliable instruction following, improved tool calling, and better multilingual accuracy. Why it matters: developers building real-time voice agents can now have AI run tools and fetch data mid-conversation with far fewer glitches.

Building real-time voice agents usually looks magical in demos, but in production, models easily trip over complex instructions and fail when it is time to trigger external tools. OpenAI is trying to fix that.
Sharper tools and multilingual accuracy
OpenAI just rolled out gpt-realtime-1.5 to its Realtime API, targeting stronger voice workflows.
According to OpenAI, the new model brings more reliable instruction following, improved tool calling, and higher multilingual accuracy to speech-to-speech interactions.
Developers can plug into the low-latency API to build voice assistants that hold real-time conversations while reliably triggering functions and querying backend systems without dropping the ball mid-sentence.
Why it matters
Voice AI is shifting from casual banter to actual task execution.
If you want an agent to handle flight rebooking, process refunds, or update internal databases, sounding natural is only half the job. The model has to consistently hit the right backend triggers while talking.
We think this incremental upgrade hits the exact pain point developers face in production today: reliability. If the tool calling and multilingual improvements hold up, real-world voice agents are about to get significantly less awkward to deploy.
