Notion's new AI agents will basically do your job

Published Reach 64

Notion just rolled out version 3.0 to all users, headlined by autonomous AI Agents designed to act like human teammates. The agents can build pages and databases, pull info across Slack and the web, and execute tasks across hundreds of pages for up to 20 minutes at a time. Basically, Notion built a power user inside your workspace that remembers how you like to work.

If you use Notion, you know the chore of setting up a new database. You know the exact fields and relations you need, but actually clicking around to wire them up eats half your afternoon.

On Thursday, Notion officially rolled out Notion 3.0 at its Make with Notion event, putting its brand-new Notion AI Agent front and center. The pitch is ambitious: Notion calls the tool a teammate and super user that can perform virtually anything a human can inside the platform.

A coworker that works for 20 minutes straight

Notion AI previously lived in a neat little box that helped you draft an email or summarize a single doc. The new Agent turns that setup on its head by executing complex, multi-step workflows across your entire workspace.

According to Notion, the Agent can work autonomously for up to 20 minutes at a time across hundreds of pages. You can ask it to scan customer feedback across Slack, email, and internal docs, analyze the patterns, build a fully structured database with custom properties, and alert you when the board is ready.

Along with the Agent, Notion 3.0 ships with database row permissions, expanded external AI connectors, and support for Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations.

Giving your agent a profile page

Notion took a clever approach to agent instructions and memory. Instead of burying system prompts deep in a settings menu, your Agent gets its own standard Notion page.

This profile page functions as the Agent's working memory. You can write out your preferred formatting styles, list specific directories it should check first, and see what the Agent has learned about your workflow over time. You can edit or delete these memories anytime, and Notion even lets you personalize the bot with a name and digital accessories.

Right now, agents require a manual prompt to kick off. However, Notion announced that custom, automated agents capable of running on recurring schedules or event triggers are on the way.

Why it matters

Over the last two years, Notion built or acquired a standalone calendar, an email client, a meeting note recorder, and universal search. Those disparate launches make complete sense now: they were gathering all the contextual ingredients needed to let an agent run free.

For knowledge workers and small teams, this flips Notion from a passive wiki into an active workspace that handles its own administrative overhead. The value proposition is real if your company already lives in Notion, saving dozens of hours on manual data entry and report synthesis.

We think storing the Agent's instructions and memories on a regular Notion page is brilliant. It makes AI steering feel familiar rather than technical. The obvious catch: letting an AI independently modify dozens of operational docs for 20 minutes without human supervision invites hallucinations. If it misinterprets your prompt, cleaning up the database mess across hundreds of pages could easily turn into a nightmare.
