Mozilla spin-off MZLA drops Thunderbolt, a self-hosted AI client
Mozilla subsidiary MZLA just launched Thunderbolt, an open-source, self-hosted AI client designed to prevent vendor lock-in. Powered by deepset's Haystack RAG framework, it runs across desktop and mobile to handle search, chat, and multi-device automation. It is basically pitching data sovereignty for enterprise teams wary of cloud AI platforms.

What it does
Under the hood, Thunderbolt integrates natively with deepset's Haystack framework for agent workflows and RAG orchestration. That means it can handle chat, semantic search, task automation, and multi-device workflows straight out of the box.
Platform coverage is remarkably broad from day one, running across Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. MZLA CEO Ryan Sipes positions the software as a true "sovereign AI client."

Why it matters
