MOSS-Audio opens up an all-in-one audio model in 4B and 8B sizes

Published Reach 48

MOSS-Audio just open-sourced a unified audio-language model available in 4B and 8B sizes, each offering Instruct and Thinking variants. It packs speech recognition, speaker analysis, emotion detection, environmental sound, and music understanding into one model, significantly outpacing Gemini-3.1-Pro on timestamped ASR accuracy.

MOSS-Audio is a unified open-source audio-language model built to tackle practically every audio task inside a single architecture.

What it packs

Instead of making you juggle multiple specialized models, it bakes speech recognition, speaker analysis, emotion detection, environmental sound interpretation, and music understanding into one system. It also natively supports time-aware ASR and audio captioning.

The project ships in two weights: 4B and 8B parameters. Both sizes provide Instruct and Thinking variants, letting you choose between direct instruction following and chain-of-thought reasoning.

According to its technical report, MOSS-Audio's timestamped ASR accuracy significantly outpaces proprietary heavyweights like Gemini-3.1-Pro.

Why it matters

Handling rich audio usually means stitching together separate tools for transcription, speaker diarization, and acoustic classification. Consolidating all of that into an end-to-end model at the 4B to 8B scale makes local deployment far more practical.

Anyone building automated video editors, meeting summarizers, or podcast analysis tools should definitely give this model a spin.
