MiniMax drops Speech 2.5 with 40-language voice cloning

Published Reach 38

MiniMax just rolled out Speech 2.5, its upgraded audio model supporting voice cloning across 40 languages. It aims to wipe out robotic cadence by matching specific accents, ages, and nuanced emotional cues. If you make multilingual content, generating realistic localized voiceovers just got a whole lot simpler.

Tired of robotic AI voices that sound like a GPS from 2012? MiniMax wants to change that.

AI company MiniMax announced the release of Speech 2.5, a major upgrade to its voice generation model focused on ultra-realistic voice cloning across 40 languages.

Emotional nuances in 40 languages

According to MiniMax, Speech 2.5 goes beyond copying simple pitch. The model is built to preserve subtle vocal nuances, including regional accents, perceived age, and emotional intensity.

The goal is to remove mechanical artifacts and make synthetic speech sound genuinely human. The model is currently accessible via MiniMax's audio portal for consumer testing, with API developer access rolling out on its open platform.

Why it matters

Cross-border creators and localization teams often struggle with the steep cost of multilingual voice actors, while existing TTS tools typically sound stiff outside of English. A model that reliably holds onto character, accent, and emotion across 40 languages could make dubbing videos, games, and audiobooks vastly faster and cheaper.

That said, as voice cloning becomes this convincing, the potential for unauthorized voice replication and impersonation grows. We think MiniMax and its peers will soon face mounting pressure to prove their safety guardrails are as advanced as their generation quality.
