Meta is bringing its Ray-Ban smart glasses to India on May 19
Meta just announced its Ray-Ban smart glasses will go on sale in India on May 19 starting at ₹29,990 (around $353). The multimodal Meta AI features live translation and hands-free assistance, though local Indian languages aren't supported yet. With 2 million units sold globally since 2023, Meta is testing whether its flagship hardware can win over one of the world's biggest tech markets.

Meta is bringing its breakout wearable hit to one of the world's biggest tech markets.
The company announced Tuesday that its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses will officially go on sale in India on May 19, starting at ₹29,990 (around $353). Preorders are already open on Ray-Ban's website, and pairs will hit physical store shelves on launch day.
Meta AI on your face, minus local languages
The glasses heading to India pack the familiar Meta AI assistant. Users can ask questions about what is right in front of them, make phone calls, and dictate text messages hands-free.
For entertainment, the frames plug directly into Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Shazam.
The glasses also feature live offline translation for English, French, Italian, and Spanish. But there is a glaring blind spot: Meta has not added support for any Indian languages yet.
Why it matters
With roughly 2 million pairs sold globally since their 2023 debut, Ray-Ban Meta is easily the most commercially viable consumer AI hardware on shelves right now. Launching in India is a logical move to keep the momentum going.
However, we think Meta faces an uphill climb here. A $353 price tag puts the device squarely in luxury territory for Indian consumers, and launching without Hindi or regional language support seriously limits the AI's everyday utility. Until Meta localizes the software, expect adoption to stay confined to urban tech enthusiasts.
