Meta gives Horizon Worlds a graphics and AI boost
Meta just overhauled Horizon Worlds with a new engine for sharper visuals and launched Horizon Studio for creators. While devs can already generate textures and audio, an in-editor AI assistant is arriving later this year to let them build worlds and tweak NPC personalities through simple chat.

Meta is giving its metaverse flagship a much-needed technical facelift.
At Connect 2025, the company announced major upgrades to Horizon Worlds, led by a brand-new Horizon Engine designed to deliver sharper graphics, faster performance, and significantly higher player concurrency.
Generative AI inside the editor
To make world-building easier, Meta introduced Meta Horizon Studio, an editor built specifically for creators crafting custom virtual spaces.
Creators can already generate textures and audio using built-in generative AI tools. Meta plans to add a full AI assistant to the editor later this year.
In an on-stage demo, a developer tweaked an entire environment and adjusted an AI-driven NPC's personality simply by chatting with the assistant.
Why it matters
Horizon Worlds has struggled to gain traction despite expanding to mobile devices and launching a $50 million creator fund earlier this year.
We think leaning heavily into AI-assisted creation is Meta's smartest move yet. If you want a platform to rival the likes of Roblox, you cannot build everything yourself; you have to make world-building as frictionless as possible for outsiders.
That said, better graphics and prompt-based editing only solve half the equation. The real test is whether creators can actually turn these tools into fun, sticky experiences that keep players coming back.
