Leonardo AI turns static images into motion video
Leonardo AI just added a new Motion feature that lets users turn static images directly into animated videos. Creators can adjust the motion strength to control the effect, with each generation costing 25 credits. Why it matters: With free accounts getting 150 daily credits, it gives creators an easy way to produce short video clips without specialized software.

AI image generators are no longer content with keeping things still.
Leonardo AI just launched a new feature called Motion, giving users the ability to convert their static AI-generated images into short, animated video clips directly on the platform.
Turn pictures into motion with a slider
Getting started takes just a few clicks. Users head into their personal gallery inside Leonardo AI and hover over any generated image, which surfaces a prompt to transform it into a motion video.
Once selected, the main control is a motion strength slider. Lower values produce subtle shifts like drifting mist or slight hair movement, while higher settings push the animation into dramatic sweeps across the frame.
Hit confirm, and the platform deducts 25 credits from your account to render the clip. Paid subscribers also get the option to mark their videos as private before processing.
Six free clips a day, but competition is fierce
Every motion video costs 25 credits, regardless of your plan tier. Leonardo AI gives free users an allowance of 150 credits per day, which works out to about six motion generations daily, assuming you do not spend those credits on rendering new base images first.
This update builds on Leonardo AI's earlier pushes to make visual creation faster, including its real-time generation tool that paints photorealistic elements alongside live brush strokes.
Still, the platform is walking into a crowded room. Dedicated video generators like Pika Labs have already been offering similar image-to-video capabilities, often with generous free tiers that come with fewer daily restrictions.
Why it matters
We see this as a classic workflow play. Instead of generating an asset in one app, downloading the file, and re-uploading it into a dedicated video tool, creators can now stay inside one dashboard from sketch to animation.
For social media marketers, game artists, and indie creators, that friction reduction is real. Getting subtle movement out of an existing concept art piece in thirty seconds without switching tabs is worth trying out right away.
That said, image-to-video is fast becoming table stakes rather than a unique selling point. While Leonardo AI made the UI frictionless, 25 credits per generation means users will burn through daily allowances quickly when hunting for the right motion output.
As standalone video models push longer runtimes and sharper camera controls, integrated image suites like Leonardo AI will have to prove their native motion tools can do more than just simple pan-and-drift effects.
