Kimi gives AI agents control of your browser

Published Reach 41

Kimi just released its browser extension (formerly Kimi WebBridge), letting AI agents click, type, and extract data directly inside your local Chrome or Edge. Instead of launching a slow isolated sandbox, it hooks into your actual browser via local protocols, keeping logins and data on your machine. Why it matters: agents can now automate tedious web tasks without breaking existing sessions.

The biggest headache with AI web agents has always been the sandbox: having to log into all your accounts all over again just so a bot can click around.

Kimi's new browser extension (formerly Kimi WebBridge) skips that hurdle entirely.

Controlling your everyday browser locally

Instead of spinning up an isolated virtual machine, the extension pairs with a local bridge service to control your existing Chrome or Edge through the Chrome DevTools Protocol. AI agents can navigate, click, scroll, fill forms, and take screenshots right where you already work.

Because it runs locally against your real browser profile, your active sessions and cookies remain intact, and sensitive web data stays on your machine. Along with local agent connectivity, the release adds a sidebar interface, workflow recording, and prompt generation for web tasks. Target workflows include multi-site data collection, form filing, and research.

Why it matters

Reusing a user's everyday browser profile is a smart practical shortcut. Cloud-based agent sandboxes are expensive and constantly trip login firewalls, whereas hooking into local sessions lets people automate repetitive web tasks immediately.

That said, handing an AI agent direct control of an active browser environment comes with obvious risks. While credentials stay local, an accidental click or rogue form submission could still cause real-world headaches. It is a promising direction, but agents will need much tighter guardrails before users let them run unattended.
