Ideogram just dropped a hyper-clean object eraser

Published Reach 39

Ideogram just launched Object Remover, a dedicated AI tool that scrubs unwanted items, text, and logos from photos. Instead of leaving smudged artifacts, it erases the surrounding shadows, reflections, and subtle lighting shifts while cleanly rebuilding the background underneath. Ideogram says it ranks first on the RemovalBench benchmark while beating rivals on per-request pricing.

Most AI eraser tools act like a greasy thumb smudging across a lens. They will gladly wipe out a photobombing stranger, but they often leave behind an awkward blur and an orphaned shadow still resting on the pavement.

Ideogram launched Object Remover, a dedicated editing tool designed to fix exactly that problem.

Scrubbing shadows and reflections together

The workflow is dead simple. You brush over the object, text, logo, or clutter you want gone, the tool automatically highlights the target, and it erases it without touching the surrounding image.

The real trick lies in how it respects lighting. Ideogram built the model to erase not just the object itself, but its surrounding shadows, surface reflections, and subtle lighting shifts, cleanly rebuilding the surface texture underneath.

In demonstrations, removing a bicycle also eliminates the cast shadow it threw across the asphalt. In a trickier interior shot where a houseplant sits behind books and partially occludes a lamp, the tool stripped out the plant while leaving the books and light source untouched, even scrubbing the plant's faint reflection off the polished floor.

Topping RemovalBench on a budget

Ideogram claims Object Remover took the top spot in removal quality on the RemovalBench benchmark.

According to the test figures, it recorded the lowest error rate when stacked against rival tools such as Nano Banana 2, FLUX Erase, and GPT Image-2 (including GPT Image-2 Medium).

Beyond raw quality, Ideogram noted that Object Remover delivers the lowest cost per request across comparable models. The tool is live on the Ideogram website, and new users can test it out using daily free credits.

Why it matters

For e-commerce sellers, creators, and casual users, removing background distractions used to mean tedious manual clone-stamping in Photoshop. Moving this capability to a quick browser-based brush tool with daily free credits makes it an easy recommendation for cleaning up product shots and social photos.

For the broader generative AI field, the battleground is clearly migrating from raw prompt generation to practical post-production control. As top-tier image generators reach parity in visual flair, fine-grained inpainting and cleanup tools will determine which platform actually fits into daily creative workflows.

We think Ideogram made a smart move by treating shadows and reflections as intrinsic extensions of the object rather than separate background elements. That said, complex scenes with conflicting light sources can be notoriously tricky, and it remains to be seen whether the model occasionally over-cleans ambient lighting that actually belongs to the scene.
