Hi3D open-sources 7.7GB model for high-res 3D generation
AI 3D platform Hi3D just open-sourced its V1.0 model weights and code under a commercial-friendly license. Sized at just 7.74GB, it runs on consumer GPUs to turn single images into detailed meshes up to 1536³ resolution. It hands creators a solid local baseline, even though the flagship V3 remains closed-source.
Hi3D V1.0 is an open-source tool that turns single reference images or text prompts into detailed 3D assets, complete with publicly released weights and a commercial-friendly license.
The entire model footprint comes in at just 7.74GB. That means you do not need beefy enterprise cloud instances; most consumer GPUs can easily fit and run it locally.
What it does
Feed it a single flat image, and it fills in the unseen angles, outputting a continuous, watertight 3D mesh with consistent back and bottom structures.
In benchmark examples, the model reconstructed an armored vehicle with distinct tire treads and chassis alignment. When tasked with a winged knight sculpture, zooming in reveals individually layered feathers rather than a muddy surface blob.
According to its technical report, Hi3D V1.0 scored 0.75 in multi-view fidelity and 0.841 in detail richness, leading its test category. It also achieved a 90% slicing success rate for 3D printing workflows.
How it works
The model builds on the Sparc3D architecture presented at NeurIPS 2025, focusing heavily on sparse surface refinement.
Instead of generating raw high-resolution voxels across empty space, it first builds a coarse base mesh. It then uses the reference image to iteratively refine the surface details through sparse geometric layers, pushing resolution up to 1024³ and 1536³.
To help the model predict obscured geometry accurately, the team expanded the training dataset from 500,000 to roughly 2 million curated 3D assets.
Where to try it
The code is live on GitHub under hi3d-official/Hi3Dv1.0, with weights mirrored on Hugging Face.
If you prefer not to configure a local Python environment, there is a free interactive web demo hosted in a Hugging Face Space under Sparc3D, alongside links on the official project page.
Keep in mind that Hi3D's top-tier V3.0 model, which pushes geometry resolution to 2048³, remains strictly proprietary alongside its Agent platform. What is public today is the battle-tested first-generation baseline.
Why it matters
For indie game devs, miniature printers, and 3D concept artists, Hi3D V1.0 provides a lightweight, local workhorse. You get decent geometry without streaming proprietary concept art to third-party cloud platforms.
Keeping the flagship V3 closed while open-sourcing the 7.74GB V1 is a smart play. It gives the open-source community a rock-solid, production-validated foundation, while putting pressure on heavier open-weight 3D models that demand massive VRAM but still output blobby geometry.
