Groq lands on Hugging Face for blazing-fast inference

Published Reach 38

Groq just officially became a supported Inference Provider on the Hugging Face Hub. Developers can now run open-source models like Llama 4 directly through Groq's low-latency LPU chips using HF's web UI or Python and JS SDKs. You can bill through Hugging Face without added markups or plug in your own Groq API key.

Running open-source models directly on Hugging Face just got an insane speed boost.

Hugging Face announced that Groq is officially integrated as a supported Inference Provider on the Hub. Developers can now run models via Groq's ultra-fast hardware directly on model pages and through official SDKs.

Bye-bye GPU latency, hello LPU

Groq has built a reputation around its Language Processing Unit (LPU), an end-to-end processing architecture custom-designed for the sequential token generation that makes LLMs tick. While traditional GPUs often choke on latency during real-time inference, LPUs deliver massive throughput and nearly instant first-token responses.

The integration brings support for top-tier open models, including Meta’s fresh Llama 4 family (like Llama-4-Scout-17B-16E-Instruct) and Qwen's QWQ-32B.

Developers can run these models using two different authentication flows. You can bring your own Groq API key to hit their servers directly, or route everything through your existing Hugging Face account using a standard HF Token. That means no need to create a new Groq account just to test an idea.

Code integration requires minimal effort. With the upcoming huggingface_hub v0.33.0 in Python (or using the source build) and the @huggingface/inference JavaScript library, switching the provider to Groq takes just one line of code: setting provider="groq".

In terms of pricing, Hugging Face isn't adding any markup. When routing through HF, users simply pay Groq's standard API rates on a pay-as-you-go basis, though HF noted revenue-sharing deals might come later. Hugging Face PRO subscribers also get $2 in monthly inference credits that can be spent on Groq, while free registered users get a modest quota to play around with.

Why it matters

Open weights are great, but slow inference has always been the buzzkill when moving prototypes into production.

For builders creating interactive voice bots, code autocomplete tools, or real-time agents, latency is everything. Groq's integration into Hugging Face makes testing bleeding-edge open models at mind-bending speeds as simple as changing a string in a client SDK. If you are already building with the Hugging Face stack, it is absolutely worth spinning up an experiment today.

From an industry standpoint, Hugging Face is rapidly cementing itself as the universal switchboard for AI compute. By letting users toggle between different hardware providers right on a model's repository page, it commoditizes the underlying silicon layer. For Groq, piggybacking on Hugging Face’s massive developer mindshare gives its proprietary LPUs immediate distribution against Nvidia-dominated GPU clouds without requiring developers to change their existing workflows.
