Grok 4.5 lands in GitHub Copilot

Published Reach 39

xAI just brought Grok 4.5, its smartest coding model, to millions of GitHub Copilot developers across VS Code, Copilot CLI, and cloud agents. You can simply pick it from the model selector (though some enterprise accounts require an admin toggle first), or access it directly via xAI's console starting at $2 per million input tokens.

Your Copilot model picker just got another contender.

xAI announced that Grok 4.5, described by the company as its smartest coding model yet, is now officially available inside GitHub Copilot.

Inside the editor, CLI, and cloud agents

Millions of developers who rely on VSCode and GitHub products daily can now pick Grok 4.5 directly from the model selector.

The integration spans GitHub Copilot across the VSCode IDE, Copilot CLI, and cloud agents. For business and enterprise accounts, administrators will first need to toggle the model on in their Copilot organization settings.

Developers can also tap into Grok 4.5 directly through the xAI console API, where pricing is set at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens.

Why it matters

GitHub Copilot is increasingly acting like a neutral multi-model aggregator. For developers, that means zero friction: you do not have to leave your existing workspace or learn a new tool just to see how xAI stacks up against your regular workflow.

For xAI, this is the quickest shortcut into the developer community. Rather than convincing engineers to switch IDEs, it meets them right where they already write code.

We think this puts Grok 4.5 in direct, head-to-head competition with the likes of Claude and GPT. Winning developer loyalty now comes down strictly to how clean and accurate the code completions feel in real time.
