Google Gemini adds real-time video and screen sharing

Published Reach 38

Google just showcased new Gemini multimodal features at MWC 2025, allowing users to ask questions using real-time video feeds or whatever is displayed on their phone screen. You can now film surroundings or browse shopping apps while getting instant AI feedback. The features roll out to Android Gemini Advanced subscribers later this month.

Google is turning Gemini into an assistant that can see whatever you are looking at, in real time.

At MWC 2025 in Barcelona, the company showed off two upgrades coming to Gemini: live screen sharing and real-time video search.

Gemini gets eyes on your screen and world

The new Screenshare feature lets you stream your Android screen directly to Gemini. In one demo, a user browsing baggy jeans asked Gemini what tops would pair well with them, and the assistant answered based on what was visible on the phone.

Alongside that is real-time video search, an ability Google first teased at last year's I/O. Instead of recording a clip and uploading it, you can simply point your camera and ask questions while recording.

Both features will roll out later this month, but they will be exclusive to Gemini Advanced subscribers on the Google One AI Premium plan on Android.

Why it matters

Static image uploads were always an awkward middle ground. Dropping the friction of screenshots means AI assistants are finally moving into real context awareness.

Asking about an outfit while browsing or pointing your phone at a broken gadget to diagnose it on the fly feels like how mobile AI should work. The catch is the paywall. By locking live multimodal tools behind its most expensive tier on Android, Google is clearly managing heavy inference costs while trying to monetize its Gemini Advanced subscription.
