Google just dropped a dedicated Gemini app for iPad

Published Reach 37

Google just launched a dedicated iPad app for its Gemini AI assistant on the App Store. The tablet version supports iPadOS Split View, letting users keep Gemini open side-by-side with other apps. It is Google's latest push to capture Apple users ahead of I/O 2025.

If you use an iPad for actual work, you know how annoying it was to keep Gemini open in a Safari tab or blow up a tiny iPhone app.

Google just rolled out a dedicated Gemini app for the iPad. It is available starting today on the App Store in every country where Gemini is currently supported.

Built for iPad split-screen multitasking

Google previously brought a native Gemini app to the iPhone back in November. iPad users, however, were left waiting for proper tablet layout support.

The standout feature here is native support for iPadOS Split View. You can dock Gemini on one side of your tablet screen while taking notes, writing a document, or browsing on the other half. It makes using the AI assistant alongside your regular workflow much more practical.

This release fits into a rapid rollout phase for Google. The company recently opened up its Deep Research tool to all users and launched a child-friendly program to explore the assistant. With Google I/O 2025 around the corner, more integrations are likely coming later this month.

Why it matters

For iPad owners who rely on AI for research or writing, this is an instant download. Native Split View turns Gemini into an actual desktop-style companion rather than an awkward popup.

We think Google is executing a smart land grab on rival hardware. Apple Intelligence is rolling out slowly, and Google is taking full advantage by establishing Gemini as the default helper right on Apple screens before Apple can lock users in.
