Google rolls out free Gemini certifications for schools
Google just launched three free Gemini certifications aimed at educators, college students, and high schoolers. The multiple-choice exams validate AI skills for productivity and learning, issuing shareable digital badges in 12 languages. It's basically Google's play to standardize its AI toolkit inside classrooms everywhere.

Google wants to grade how well you prompt.
Google announced three new Gemini certifications designed to validate AI skills in academic settings. Passing the assessment yields a verifiable digital certificate that educators can use for professional development credits, and students can show off on resumes.
Three tracks, all multiple-choice
The program splits into three distinct buckets. Gemini Certified Educator focuses on classroom innovation for teachers, Gemini Certified University Student preps undergrads for academic work and careers, and Gemini Certified Student targets high schoolers on responsible AI use, requiring a prerequisite course before testing.
All exams are entirely multiple-choice and free. The rollout covers 12 languages right away, with student-level localizations landing soon and a separate exam for college faculty coming next month.
Why it matters
Instead of watching schools ban AI over cheating fears, Google is smartly defining what proper academic AI use looks like. Offering fully free, verifiable credentials gives educators and students an immediate reason to standardize on Google tools rather than OpenAI or Anthropic.
We think this is classic ecosystem lock-in executed well. If schools train students on Gemini workflows today, those students will naturally demand the same tools when they enter the corporate workforce tomorrow.
