Google turns your Discover feed into a personalized AI podcast
Google just rolled out Daily Listen in Search Labs, an experimental feature that turns your search habits and Discover feed into a customized five-minute AI podcast. It uses the same Audio Overview magic found in NotebookLM, complete with scrubbers and full transcripts. For now, it's strictly an opt-in test for iOS and Android users in the US.

If you usually scroll through news feeds with your morning coffee, Google now wants to take over your headphones instead.
According to 9to5Google, Google is rolling out an experimental feature called Daily Listen within Search Labs for Android and iOS users in the US. The concept is straightforward: it turns your daily search habits and Discover feed history into a bite-sized, personalized podcast.
Your feed as a five-minute audio show
Daily Listen works much like the popular Audio Overviews feature inside NotebookLM. It looks at your search queries and the topics you interact with across Google Discover, figures out what news matters most to you, and generates a roughly five-minute audio rundown.
Eligible Search Labs testers will spot the Daily Listen widget right in the carousel beneath the main search bar in the Google app.
The audio player covers the essentials: full audio scrubber controls, play, pause, mute, rewind, and the ability to skip directly to the next story if a topic does not interest you. It also serves up a live text transcript alongside the audio.
At the bottom of the interface, a Related Stories tab matches whatever topic is currently playing. From there, you can give each story a thumbs up or thumbs down to train the algorithm, or tap through to read original sources.
There is no timeline yet for when Daily Listen might roll out to the wider public. Google ran similar experiments in Search Labs with its AI Search Overviews before rolling them out globally, hinting that this could eventually become a standard staple in the app.
Why it matters
We think this is one of Google's smartest moves yet to bring conversational audio out of niche researcher tools and straight into its mass-market front door.
NotebookLM proved that people genuinely enjoy listening to AI summarize documents. But NotebookLM requires you to manually gather sources. Daily Listen eliminates that friction entirely by tapping into data Google already has on you, packaging your morning news digest into an effortless five-minute commute listen.
For rival news and podcast apps, it represents fresh competition for ears. Google is no longer just answering your queries; it is actively programming your morning talk radio based on your own interests.
That said, there are obvious trade-offs. Generating personalized podcasts based strictly on past clicks risks wrapping users in an even tighter filter bubble where opposing viewpoints simply never make the cut. Plus, given how difficult it has been for casual users to opt out of AI Overviews, Google will need to make sure Daily Listen stays an optional delight rather than an unremovable homepage widget.
