Google puts full travel booking inside AI Search

Published Reach 48

Google just upgraded Search's AI Mode with three major travel features, allowing users to set flight price drop alerts across 300+ airlines, check reward points and miles redemption rates, and book hotels directly in chat via Google Pay. Why it matters: Google is steadily transforming its conversational search into an end-to-end travel agent that can handle everything from planning to checkout.

Planning a vacation usually starts with excitement and ends with twenty open tabs, three airline apps, and a headache from calculating whether using points is actually worth it.

Google wants to kill that browser tab clutter. On Thursday, the company announced three major travel updates for AI Mode in Search, bringing price tracking, loyalty points search, and instant hotel checkout straight into the conversational interface.

Tracking fares and spending points in chat

First up is flight price monitoring. Google is taking the core engine behind Google Flights and embedding it directly into AI Mode across more than 180 countries and territories.

You can chat about flight options pulled from over 300 partner airlines and booking sites. If tickets look a bit steep, you can simply type “track these flight prices for me.” When fares drop, Google sends an alert straight to your inbox.

The second feature tackles loyalty rewards, which is rolling out globally right now. Instead of logging into separate accounts to check award charts, you can ask AI Mode to price trips in points or miles.

For instance, you can ask for nonstop flights from Atlanta to Miami using American Airlines miles, and the AI serves up matching itineraries with exact mileage requirements. Hotel points work the same way.

Launch partners include American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Hilton, Choice Hotels, and Wyndham. Support for Hyatt, Lufthansa Group, Accor, LATAM, and Flying Blue is slated to arrive in the coming weeks.

Instant hotel booking without the tab hop

The biggest workflow shift is conversational hotel booking. After browsing AI-generated recommendations with photos and reviews, you can lock in a room without leaving the chat.

Clicking “Continue on Google” lets you inspect cancellation terms, pick your room tier, and finalize payment using Google Pay. The feature is starting to roll out in the U.S. in English, backed by heavyweights like Booking.com, Expedia, Marriott, IHG, and Trip.com.

Crucially, Google isn't becoming a travel agency itself. The tech giant made sure to clarify that the partner hotel chain or OTA remains the merchant of record and handles all customer service.

Why it matters

We see this as a textbook move from passive search engine to proactive AI travel agent. Up until now, asking an AI for trip ideas usually resulted in generic itineraries full of dead links and phantom prices. Integrating live inventory, loyalty balances, and native checkout turns conversational search into a practical utility.

For travelers sitting on piles of airline miles, this is an immediate time-saver. You can quickly see whether cash or points make sense without tab-hopping through clunky rewards portals.

Google's execution here is also remarkably clever from a business perspective. By keeping the conversation and Google Pay checkout in-house while pushing billing liability and customer support onto partners like Booking and Marriott, Google gets the sticky interface without taking on travel industry headaches.

It puts serious pressure on traditional travel sites. If users can plan, compare, and pay entirely inside Google Search, legacy OTAs risk becoming invisible plumbing behind an AI curtain.
