Google gives Gemini Notebook a voice and AI study videos
Google just rolled out a major update to Gemini Notebook, adding real-time voice conversations grounded in your uploaded sources across nearly 100 languages on mobile. The update also adds lecture audio recording, customizable quizzes and flashcards, and 60-second animated study videos in 80+ languages—plus free premium plan subscriptions for eligible college students worldwide.

Staring down hundreds of pages of lecture slides or research PDFs can feel overwhelming. Having an AI that doesn't just store those documents, but actually lets you talk through them like an on-call tutor, changes the whole workflow.
Google introduced a fresh new look for Gemini Notebook alongside a slate of study-focused features, headlined by real-time voice conversations on mobile.
Voice, audio notes, and one-minute explainer videos
Users can soon talk through complex topics with their notebooks in real time via the Android and iOS apps in nearly 100 languages. Because every answer is grounded strictly in your uploaded sources, you can get step-by-step explanations, ask questions, and interrupt mid-sentence without worrying about random hallucinations.
Mobile input is expanding beyond photos and handwritten notes. Starting next week, a built-in audio recorder lets you capture live lectures or verbal brain dumps on the go, placing those notes right next to your primary sources for ongoing editing, citations, and chat queries.
Google is also rolling out interactive learning overviews that weave summaries, infographics, quizzes, and flashcards together. More quiz formats, such as short answer, multiple select, and fill in the blank, are arriving soon. After finishing a test, you can ask your notebook to analyze your performance and highlight where you need more practice.
Another clever addition is Short Video Overviews. Available in over 80 languages, these 60-second clips pair narrative voiceovers with educational animations to break down complex formulas, diagrams, and scientific concepts for quick digestion or sharing.
Free plans for college students worldwide
To drive adoption on campuses, Google is handing out serious perks to students.
College students in the United States can claim one year of Google AI Pro for free, a plan normally valued at $19.99 per month, which unlocks 4x higher usage limits in Gemini Notebook.
Eligible students in more than 140 markets outside the U.S. can grab a free year of Google AI Plus, which doubles their notebook usage limits.
Why it matters
For students, researchers, and knowledge workers, Gemini Notebook is quickly becoming the benchmark for personal knowledge bases. Instead of juggling third-party recording apps, transcription tools, and quiz makers, the entire study loop now lives in a single mobile interface.
We think grounding conversational voice models in user-provided documents is Google's smartest move here. Hallucinations are the fatal flaw of general-purpose voice assistants; by anchoring every response to source materials, Notebook makes voice genuinely useful for dense technical study.
Industry-wide, this puts immense pressure on standalone note-taking startups and AI education apps. By offering a year of Pro or Plus access for free to students across 140-plus countries, Google is playing the classic ecosystem game: hook future professionals while they are still in school.
The real test will be learning retention. As AI transitions from generating bullet points to rendering 60-second animated explainers, students must be careful not to mistake algorithmic digestion for their own deep comprehension.
