Fiverr launches AI categories as searches jump 1400%

Published Reach 35

Fiverr just rolled out dedicated AI service categories covering tools like Midjourney, ChatGPT, and DALL-E. The move follows a 1400% surge in AI-related searches over the past six months. Basically, businesses aren't just shopping for raw AI technology—they are hunting for freelancers who actually know how to use it.

While half the internet is busy arguing about whether generative AI will take everyone's job, freelancers and clients are already using it to make serious cash.

Freelance gig platform Fiverr rolled out dedicated AI service categories across its marketplace. The move wasn't just a marketing gimmick—it was driven by hard numbers. Over the past six months, searches for AI-related services on the platform exploded by over 1400%.

The new categories explicitly spotlight tools like Midjourney, ChatGPT, and DALL-E, giving artists, copywriters, and developers a direct storefront to sell their AI-assisted skills.

Companies don't want raw AI, they want operators

It turns out, business leaders aren't just looking for software licenses—they're desperately looking for operators who actually know what they're doing.

Companies want to integrate AI into their marketing campaigns, daily operations, and sales funnels, but prompt engineering and asset generation take serious experimentation. Instead of training internal staff from scratch, businesses are flocking to platforms like Fiverr to hire seasoned practitioners.

Fiverr founder and CEO Micha Kaufman pointed out that while new AI tools have raised the baseline expectations for copy, imagery, and code, they mean nothing without skilled people behind the wheel. Kaufman noted that as soon as a new wave of tech appears, both supply and demand for skilled operators naturally consolidate on the platform.

Fiverr builds its own AI toolchain

Beyond just sorting freelancers into new buckets, Fiverr has also been quietly rolling out its own in-house AI features to boost creator productivity.

For many solo freelancers, building and integrating custom AI infrastructure is financially and technically impossible. Fiverr's in-house tools bridge that gap.

For example, with the Fiverr Logo Maker, designers can earn passive income while AI personalizes designs for small businesses. More recently, the platform launched AI Auditions, an audio feature that allows voiceover artists to generate client auditions automatically without reading a single sentence from a script.

Why it matters

Fiverr played this smart. Instead of resisting generative AI or viewing it as an existential threat to freelance work, they quickly leaned in and monetized the learning curve.

For freelancers, the message is clear: knowing how to drive tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney is officially a marketable skill, not just a productivity hack. For businesses, hiring a skilled AI freelancer is often ten times faster and cheaper than trying to build AI literacy internally.

That said, the honeymoon phase might face friction down the line. As AI tools become more intuitive and ubiquitous, the baseline output will commoditize rapidly. The freelancers who thrive in the long run won't just be prompt typers—they'll be the ones who bring real human judgment and polish on top of the raw machine output.
