Diagramming with AI usually means wrestling with raw Mermaid syntax or copying code back and forth between different browser tabs.
The popular hand-drawn diagramming tool Excalidraw released its official MCP server, streamlining the whole process inside Claude.
A live canvas inside your chat
With this integration, Claude can natively create and modify Excalidraw diagrams right inside your conversation.
The entire canvas interface renders directly in the chat window. Claude can build architecture charts or workflows from scratch and update them on the fly based on your feedback.
Getting started takes virtually no effort. Just search for "Excalidraw" in Claude's connectors and install it with a single click.
Why it matters
For developers and product managers who rely on Excalidraw's clean, hand-drawn look, this removes an annoying layer of friction. You describe what you need, see the visual instantly, and iterate without leaving the window.
More broadly, it is a great showcase of what Anthropic's Model Context Protocol is built for. Instead of just returning plain text responses, AI can now summon and manipulate full-fledged interactive tools inside the chat. We think this is a clear sign that conversational AI is moving from answering questions to acting as a genuine visual workbench.
