Matthew McConaughey just revealed he has quietly been an investor in ElevenLabs for years, and now he is putting the technology to work. If you closed your eyes, you would recognize Matthew McConaughey’s lazy Texas drawl anywhere. But hearing him speak fluent Spanish might make you double-check your headphones.

At its inaugural Summit, voice AI startup ElevenLabs revealed that the Oscar-winning actor has been an investor and early backer of the company for years. Now, he is stepping up as an active creator on the platform.

Alright, alright, in Spanish

In a video screened at the event, McConaughey announced that his personal newsletter, Lyrics of Livin’, is launching a Spanish-language audio version. The entire project is powered by ElevenLabs.

Listeners will soon be able to hear McConaughey’s stories translated into Spanish audio, delivered in his unmistakable personal voice.

McConaughey said he has backed ElevenLabs for several years, drawn from day one to what he described as the extraordinary storytelling capabilities and creative potential the platform unlocks. ElevenLabs co-founder and CEO Mati Staniszewski noted that McConaughey connected directly with their creative vision, rather than just treating it as a cool tech demo.

Turning celebrity voice into a borderless asset

Much of Hollywood’s discourse around AI voices has been defensive, dominated by strikes, lawsuits, and fears of unauthorized cloning. McConaughey is taking a decidedly different route.

Instead of treating voice rights purely as something to protect from theft, he is using AI cloning to scale his brand across borders. Previously, translating personal audio content into Spanish meant hiring a voice actor, losing the very signature charm that made people tune in to begin with.

By porting his exact voice into another language, McConaughey bypasses that barrier entirely, opening up his storytelling to millions of Spanish speakers without re-recording a single sentence in a studio.

Why it matters

We think this partnership marks an important shift in how mainstream creatives view voice AI. McConaughey’s endorsement moves the conversation away from existential panic and toward pragmatic distribution.

For creators and podcasters, the takeaway is clear: localized audio is no longer reserved for media conglomerates with international production budgets. If an Oscar winner can translate his personal essays into authentic multi-language audio with a few clicks, any independent creator can use the exact same playbook to break into international markets right now.

For ElevenLabs, getting an A-list storyteller to publicly embrace the platform is a massive PR win. It positions their tools not as a threat to human artistry, but as an amplifier for high-profile storytellers looking to reach wider audiences.

However, this dynamic also highlights an uncomfortable tension. As celebrity voices become infinitely scalable across dozens of languages, local dubbing artists and voice actors will face even steeper competition. Celebrities can now license their unmistakable tones globally, leaving fewer entry-level voice gigs for everyone else.
