ElevenLabs brings Claude 3.7 Sonnet to voice agents
ElevenLabs just integrated Anthropic's Claude 3.7 Sonnet into its Conversational AI platform. Developers can now combine the hybrid-reasoning model with realistic voice synthesis, building voice agents that handle nuanced queries with fewer hallucinations and tighter context tracking.

Realistic AI voices mean very little if the brain behind them hallucinates or loses the plot two minutes into a phone call.
ElevenLabs is tackling that problem head-on. The company just integrated Anthropic’s flagship Claude 3.7 Sonnet into its Conversational AI platform, allowing developers to power their voice agents with the new hybrid reasoning model.
A live AI debate
Claude 3.7 Sonnet brings a dual-nature approach to voice agents. It can deliver fast, instinctive responses for casual banter, but switch into step-by-step reasoning when faced with tricky, complex queries. This translates to tighter instruction following, fewer hallucinations, and much better context retention across long conversations.
To show it off, ElevenLabs put the model through a live debate against an agent powered by GPT-4o. According to the team, Claude’s sharper reasoning and factual consistency clearly stood out in real-time exchanges.
Setting it up is straightforward. In the ElevenLabs dashboard, users simply create a new agent, pick Claude 3.7 Sonnet from the LLM dropdown, select a library voice or voice clone, and tweak their system prompt.
Pick your voice brain
This integration follows ElevenLabs’ recent rollout of DeepSeek R1 support, turning their platform into a modular hub for conversational models.
Developers can now pick their LLM based on specific bottlenecks. Need raw speed and rock-bottom latency for tool calls? Gemini Flash 2.0 or 1.5 is the move. Need multimodal chops? GPT-4o is there. Need nuanced understanding and deep reasoning? Claude 3.7 Sonnet takes the lead. Teams can also bring their own fine-tuned models via any OpenAI-compatible API.
ElevenLabs is targeting four main use cases: interactive educational tutors, complex customer service workflows, fact-heavy content assistants, and multi-perspective debate agents.
Why it matters
Voice AI has always suffered from a brutal tradeoff: lightning-fast models were usually too dumb for high-stakes edge cases, while frontier reasoning models made callers wait through unbearable silence.
Claude 3.7 Sonnet’s hybrid reasoning offers a compelling fix. For builders running automated customer hotlines or virtual tutoring, switching to this model is an immediate upgrade worth testing, especially in fields where a single hallucination can kill user trust.
More broadly, ElevenLabs is playing the smart infrastructure game. Instead of locking users into one proprietary model, it is turning itself into an agnostic orchestrator. As the frontier labs battle over benchmarks, voice builders get to swap in the smartest mind on the market with a single click.
