Deutsche Telekom brings ElevenLabs AI podcasts to millions
Deutsche Telekom just partnered with ElevenLabs to embed its Gen FM audio tech directly into the Magenta AI app, letting users turn news articles into podcasts in seconds. The telecom giant also invested in ElevenLabs’ Series C round. It signals a major shift toward making AI speech a default smartphone interface.

Most people only open their telecom app once a month to pay a bill or check mobile data. Deutsche Telekom wants to change that by turning its app into an AI-powered radio station.
The European telecom giant just announced a strategic partnership with ElevenLabs to integrate hyper-realistic AI voices into Magenta AI. Alongside the rollout, Deutsche Telekom also confirmed it invested in ElevenLabs’ recent Series C funding round.
Instant podcasts in your pocket
The initial rollout centers on automated podcast generation powered by ElevenLabs’ Gen FM technology.
Instead of reading through text-heavy articles, users can convert written news into immersive, natural-sounding audio in seconds. It is designed to feel less like a robotic screen reader and more like an authentic studio production.
Users can also generate custom audio shows from pre-set prompts on demand, such as "The Most Streamed Songs and Shows of 2025."
Deutsche Telekom's Chief Product Officer Jon noted that speech will soon become the standard way humans interact with technology. While podcasting is step one, the carrier plans to expand ElevenLabs' voice technology across more customer touchpoints down the road.
To support this enterprise push across the continent, ElevenLabs recently brought on former Intercom EMEA sales lead Stan to help scale enterprise voice agents throughout Europe.
Why it matters
Turning mobile carrier apps into content hubs has historically been an uphill battle. Most users simply want their bills paid and their connections stable. However, embedding instant audio conversion directly into an existing utility could actually work if it genuinely saves commuters and multitaskers time.
We think Deutsche Telekom played this smartly. Rather than burning millions trying to train proprietary speech models from scratch, the carrier partnered with the best voice engine on the market and backed it up with venture capital. Becoming an investor aligns incentives and guarantees early access to frontier audio features.
The real test will be retention. ElevenLabs produces arguably the best synthetic speech in the world, but Deutsche Telekom will need to convince subscribers that an app designed to manage cell plans is the right home for their daily podcast habit. If users embrace it, expect rival carriers to follow suit with their own voice integrations very quickly.
