Coinbase taps Perplexity for real-time crypto intelligence
Coinbase just partnered with Perplexity to feed real-time crypto market data, including its COIN50 index, directly into the AI search engine and its new Comet browser. Phase one lets users drill into price moves inside market analysis, with full conversational trading screeners coming next. Why it matters: Perplexity revealed crypto queries now match equities, signaling how quickly everyday financial research is turning conversational.

Crypto traders usually spend their days drowning in chaotic browser tabs, juggling exchange tickers, Telegram groups, and volatile charts. Coinbase and Perplexity think artificial intelligence can clean up that mess.
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong announced a new partnership with AI search engine Perplexity to bring real-time, trusted crypto market data straight into AI responses.
Turning market noise into conversational insights
The rollout is happening in two distinct phases.
Phase 1 launched today. Perplexity is actively ingesting Coinbase market data, including the COIN50 index, to power its real-time market analysis.
Traders can now dig straight into price movements to evaluate market momentum. Armstrong demonstrated how this works inside Comet, Perplexity's recently unveiled browser. Interestingly, the Perplexity team revealed that user searches for crypto on its platform now equal searches for traditional equities.
Phase 2 is coming soon. Coinbase data will feed directly into Perplexity conversational answers.
Instead of parsing technical indicators across trading desks, users will be able to monitor broader market sentiment, screen for new trade setups, and analyze single-token price action through natural language queries. The entire integration runs on the Coinbase Developer Platform.
Why it matters
For traders and casual investors, this significantly flattens the research learning curve. Sifting through noisy crypto chatter is exhausting. Getting clean, verified price context from an AI search query makes spot-checking tokens as easy as asking a quick question.
For the industry, it signals a massive shift in how financial search works. When Perplexity users are searching for tokens as frequently as equities, crypto is no longer an isolated niche. Financial intelligence is moving away from static legacy terminals toward flexible conversational interfaces.
We think Coinbase's playbook here is smart. By piping its live data into one of the fastest-growing AI tools, it anchors its market pricing as the default source of truth across the web. Armstrong also signaled his long-term goal: eventually embedding crypto wallets directly into large language models to enable automated transactions. That said, financial markets leave no room for hallucination. In high-volatility flash crashes, even small data delays or confusing summaries could lead traders astray, making real-world reliability the ultimate test.
