Codex brings Computer Use to Windows
Codex just rolled out update 26.527, bringing Computer Use to Windows so the assistant can view screens, click, and type directly across desktop apps. Users can now also remotely control Windows devices via ChatGPT on iOS or Android, or from a Mac running Codex. A refreshed profile section also adds token activity and usage stats.

Letting an AI take over your keyboard and mouse used to feel like a Mac-first party. Now, Windows users are finally getting their hands dirty with desktop automation.
OpenAI just pushed update 26.527 for its Codex desktop app, bringing two massive upgrades to Windows. First up is Computer Use: Codex can now operate directly on Windows desktop apps in the foreground by seeing what is on your screen, clicking UI elements, and typing on your behalf.
Remote control from your phone
Even better, OpenAI added cross-device remote control for Windows machines. You can now tap into and direct your Windows PC straight from the ChatGPT mobile app on iOS or Android, or even from another Mac running Codex.
The update also refreshed the app's Profile tab, giving users an easy way to check account details, usage metrics, and real-time token consumption.
Why it matters
If your daily work relies on Windows-only legacy software or complex desktop workflows, this is a serious productivity boost. The ability to kick off tasks on your workstation from your phone while away from your desk makes desktop agents genuinely usable on the go.
We think bridging mobile ChatGPT with desktop execution is a smart move that Anthropic and other competitors will have to match. That said, letting an agent click and type in the foreground always carries risks of rogue misclicks, so keeping a watchful eye on sensitive apps is still a must.
