Cloudflare Drop lets you host static sites with zero signup

Published Reach 41

Cloudflare just introduced Drop, a dead-simple way to deploy static websites without creating an account. You simply drag and drop a folder or zip file to instantly publish it across Cloudflare's global network with a live workers.dev URL. It is specifically optimized for AI agents generating web previews, giving you 60 minutes to claim and keep the site permanently.

Deploying a quick web page has always had more friction than it should. You usually have to sign in, link a GitHub repository, set up build settings, or enter billing details just to show someone a three-file mockup.

Cloudflare is cutting all of that out with a new project called Cloudflare Drop.

It lets anyone deploy static websites to Cloudflare global edge network with zero setup and no account required to start.

Drag, drop, and get a live link

The interface is as minimal as it gets. You drop a folder, a zip file, or just a single HTML file into the browser window.

Drop pushes your HTML, CSS, JavaScript, fonts, and images straight to Cloudflare network and hands you a live URL under the workers.dev domain within seconds. If you upload a lone HTML file, it automatically serves it as the home page.

Every upload comes with a 60-minute preview window. You can share that link with a client, send it across Slack, or show off a hackathon prototype immediately.

If you want to keep the site permanently, Drop provides a unique claim URL. Clicking that link within the hour lets you attach the temporary deployment to a real Cloudflare account.

Built for terminals and AI agents

Cloudflare is also catering directly to automated workflows and command-line fans with this release.

For AI agents with browser automation, Cloudflare outlined a workflow to upload static builds through Drop and return both the live preview URL and the claim URL to the user.

For engineers working locally, Wrangler CLI version 4.102.0 and later supports an unauthenticated temporary deployment flag.

By passing the temporary flag alongside a build directory and project name, developers can deploy static folders directly from their terminal without ever logging into an account or configuring API tokens.

Cloudflare notes that if a brand-new link throws a 404 on the very first hit, waiting a few moments and refreshing usually resolves it as global edge routes settle.

Why it matters

We think Cloudflare Drop is a brilliant land grab aimed straight at the AI coding era.

AI models can spit out functional web prototypes in seconds, but getting non-technical stakeholders to see the result still required devops busywork. Drop turns hosting into something as frictionless as dropping a file into AirDrop.

It is also a textbook user acquisition engine. Instead of forcing visitors through sign-up walls and verification emails, Cloudflare gives away instant edge performance for free, then lets the 60-minute expiration clock push users toward creating an account naturally.

While it is strictly limited to static frontends and you risk losing un-claimed work if you miss the one-hour cutoff, lowering the barrier to entry this far sets a tough benchmark for rivals like Vercel and Netlify.
