Claude makes switching easier with context import from rival AIs
Claude just launched an import feature that lets you transfer your preferences and context from other AI chatbots without starting from scratch. You simply run a provided prompt in your old chatbot to export your saved context, then paste it directly into Claude's memory settings. It is free and keeps project contexts neatly separated.
The single biggest annoyance of switching AI chatbots is losing the muscle memory. You spent months training your assistant to know your workflow and tone, only to start from zero somewhere else.
Anthropic rolled out an import tool for Claude designed to fix exactly that, letting users carry over their preferences and context from rival assistants in under a minute.
Export your context with a single prompt
The migration doesn't rely on complicated APIs or platform cooperation. It is delightfully simple.
Anthropic gives you a specially crafted prompt. You drop it into a chat with your current AI chatbot to extract everything it knows about your working style, preferences, and background. Once the bot spits out the summary, you simply paste that text directly into Claude's memory settings. That is it.
The feature is available on the free plan. Once imported, Claude keeps project contexts separated so different tasks do not bleed together, and you can view or edit the saved memories whenever you want.
Why it matters
Switching costs in AI are almost entirely about familiarity, not subscription fees. Nobody wants to re-explain their job and formatting habits for the hundredth time.
Anthropic found a clever way to poach users without waiting for industry-wide data portability standards. By prompting the competitor to pack the bags for you, it turns the rival chatbot into its own moving van.
We think this strips away the biggest psychological barrier to testing Claude. If your old habits transfer over seamlessly in two clicks, there is very little reason left not to give a competitor a spin.
