Teach Claude skills by recording your screen

Writing prompts to explain your exact desktop workflow is a nightmare. Anthropic is trying to fix that by letting you just show Claude what to do.

Claude introduced a new feature called Claude Cowork on its desktop app. Instead of typing out complicated instructions, you can now teach Claude reusable skills simply by recording your screen and narrating your actions as you work.

Just show and tell

The workflow is pretty straightforward. Inside the Claude desktop app, users can hit the plus menu and select "Record a skill."

From there, you perform the task on your screen while talking through the steps out loud. Claude takes the video and audio, breaks down the process, and turns it into an autonomous skill that it can repeat later on its own. The feature is currently available to Pro, Max, and Team subscribers.

Why it matters

For anyone stuck doing repetitive desktop chores, this lowers the bar to automating daily work. You don't need to write code or craft fragile prompts—if you know how to do the job once, you can essentially train Claude like a human intern.

We think this is a smart pivot toward agentic workflows. Instead of forcing users to describe visual software interfaces with words, capturing the actual clicks and audio narration is far more natural.

The real test will be reliability. Showing an AI how to click through a static task is one thing, but how well these learned skills handle unexpected popups, UI redesigns, or edge cases remains to be seen.
