Claude Code won't cut you off mid-code anymore

Published Reach 37

Anthropic just gave Claude Code a graceful wrap-up feature when hitting the 5-hour limit mid-task. Instead of abruptly aborting edits, it borrows a small allowance from your weekly quota to package up ongoing work cleanly. Pro plans get it weekly, while Max and Team users get it on every limit trigger.

Few things are more frustrating when vibe coding than an AI agent stopping dead in its tracks mid-function because you slammed into a rate limit.

A soft landing for mid-task limits

Claude Code will now attempt to wrap up ongoing work gracefully when hitting 5-hour usage caps instead of cutting off mid-edit, @ClaudeDevs announced.

To make this happen, the system pulls a small, fixed token allowance directly from your weekly limit, giving the model just enough breathing room to clean up after itself.

Pro subscribers get this safety net once per week, while Max and Team Premium users will get it every single time a session cap is reached. Once the wrap-up completes, users can still keep going by tapping into extra usage.

Why it matters

Abrupt cutoffs during automated coding can leave repos in a broken, half-refactored state that is messy to debug manually. Letting the agent properly finish a current file edit or report a clean halting status saves developers real cleanup headaches.

Anthropic's approach here looks clever. Rather than expanding overall compute limits, borrowing against a weekly quota solves the acute UX frustration without increasing server strain. Still, power users pushing long coding marathons will want to keep backup credits handy, as this only provides a brief pause rather than an extended session.
