ChatGPT rolls out quality-of-life updates
OpenAI just announced a bundle of practical updates coming to ChatGPT over the next week. Plus subscribers will finally keep their selected model by default instead of reverting to GPT-3.5, and Code Interpreter now supports analyzing multiple files at once. Users also get helpful prompt starters, suggested follow-up replies, longer login sessions, and handy keyboard shortcuts.
Six quality-of-life tweaks you will actually notice
Sometimes the biggest barrier to getting real work done with AI isn't raw intelligence, but annoying interface friction. OpenAI is rolling out six small quality-of-life updates to ChatGPT over the coming week to smooth out those rough edges.
For Plus subscribers, the most welcome change is default model memory. When starting a fresh thread, ChatGPT will finally remember whichever model you picked previously, meaning you will no longer get bumped back down to GPT-3.5 by default.
Plus users also get multiple file uploads inside the Code Interpreter beta. You can now feed ChatGPT several files at once and have it run comparative data analysis across all of them in a single prompt.
Starting and continuing conversations should feel a bit less awkward as well. Fresh chats now display prompt examples to break the blank page freeze, while suggested replies let you explore deeper questions with a single click.
To round things out, you will no longer get kicked out every two weeks thanks to persistent logins, and OpenAI baked in native keyboard shortcuts. You can hit Command or Control plus Shift plus semicolon to copy the latest code block, or press Command or Control with a slash to bring up the full list.
Why it matters
We think this release signals that OpenAI is finally treating ChatGPT like an everyday workplace tool rather than an experimental tech demo. Remembering your GPT-4 preference and keeping you logged in might sound basic, but removing daily micro-annoyances is exactly how you keep power users hooked.
For anyone running data analysis through Code Interpreter, multi-file uploads eliminate a massive copy-paste bottleneck right out of the box.
