ChatGPT launches a Spotify Wrapped-style year-end recap

Published Reach 48

OpenAI just rolled out "Your Year with ChatGPT," giving users a Spotify Wrapped-style retrospective of their prompt habits. It analyzes your prompts to reveal your core themes, assigns you a user archetype, and generates a custom AI image of your interests. You'll need chat history and memories enabled to trigger it, and it's currently limited to individual accounts in select countries.

It is that time of the year when every app on your phone pretends to be Spotify. Now, OpenAI wants in on the fun.

OpenAI just rolled out “Your Year with ChatGPT,” an annual review feature that packages your yearly prompts, obsessions, and late-night queries into a shareable recap.

Awards, archetypes, and custom poems

The feature is currently available across web and mobile apps for users in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Free, Plus, and Pro accounts can all access it, but you will need to have both chat history and memory references turned on, along with enough usage to trigger the review.

Team, Enterprise, and Education accounts are completely excluded, keeping work and school data out of the social mix.

Instead of dry charts, the recap wraps your queries in a pastel-colored presentation. It dishes out playful personality awards and sorts you into archetypes against other ChatGPT users.

For example, if you spent the year troubleshooting logic and bouncing ideas back and forth, you might snag the “Creative Debugger” badge. Power users stress-testing the chatbot’s boundaries might get an “inventor” nod and the “navigator” archetype, which OpenAI says represents 22.9% of users.

To top it off, ChatGPT writes a personalized poem about your year and generates a custom AI image blending your main topics of interest. OpenAI is not forcing it down your throat either: it sits quietly on the home screen, or you can simply type “Your Year with ChatGPT” in the prompt bar to trigger it.

Why it matters

Spotify cracked the ultimate viral marketing code years ago: turn personal data into vanity badges, and users will flood social feeds with free ads. OpenAI is finally taking notes.

For regular users, it is a fun mirror. You get a surprisingly accurate snapshot of what actually occupied your brain over the past twelve months, whether that was coding side projects, planning trips, or untangling complex ideas.

At the same time, it is a clever demonstration of how much the model now remembers about you. While enterprise accounts were wisely left out to avoid privacy blowback, seeing an AI summarize your entire year from raw memories is both impressive and a tiny bit unsettling.

OpenAI had a wild year marked by the polarizing GPT-5 launch, open-weight experiments, massive infra spending, and intense pressure from Google Gemini 3. Capping off that rollercoaster with a breezy, feel-good consumer feature is a smart play to remind everyone that ChatGPT is still a daily habit.
