ChatGPT for Android expands to all supported countries
OpenAI just expanded ChatGPT for Android to all countries and territories where ChatGPT is officially available. The mobile app now matches web availability across dozens of regions. Users accessing the service outside supported areas still risk account suspension.

Android users who were tired of pinning ChatGPT web shortcuts to their home screens can finally relax.
OpenAI just announced that ChatGPT for Android is now fully rolled out to all supported countries and regions via the Google Play Store.
A breakneck rollout
OpenAI moved surprisingly fast on this one.
Just days after launching on July 26 in four test markets—the US, India, Bangladesh, and Brazil—OpenAI briefly expanded to 16 countries before opening the floodgates entirely.
The Android app matches its iOS sibling, syncing your chat history across devices and handling typical prompts like drafting emails, writing code, and answering complex questions on the fly.
Alongside the app rollout, OpenAI published its updated roster of supported territories, while issuing a stern warning: accessing or offering access from unsupported regions can get your account blocked or suspended.
Why it matters
We think this launch finally gives OpenAI the reach it actually needs.
While iOS captured early adopters and Western tech circles, Android dominates the global smartphone landscape, particularly across Latin America, Asia, and parts of Europe.
For everyday users, having a verified, free official app means they no longer have to risk downloading sketchy knockoffs on the Play Store that charge predatory subscriptions.
For competitors, the window of opportunity just slammed shut.
Many rival AI apps gained traction simply by being available as native Android downloads while OpenAI was absent.
With OpenAI claiming its own real estate on billions of mobile home screens, third-party wrapper apps are facing an immediate squeeze, though the strict regional blocking policy proves OpenAI is still prioritizing legal guardrails over unchecked global adoption.
