ByteDance's Seedance 2.5 creates 30-second 4K video from one prompt
ByteDance is readying Seedance 2.5, a new AI video model capable of generating 30-second, 4K clips from a single prompt. It allows users to feed in up to 50 reference images, videos, or audio tracks—a big jump from 12 in version 2.0 that provides far tighter creative control. Reports suggest it could drop as early as this week.

Generating an AI video that feels like a real film scene has always been a painful puzzle of stitching together short clips and praying your characters do not mutate between shots.
ByteDance is getting ready to drop Seedance 2.5, the latest iteration of its flagship AI video generator. Unveiled at Volcano Engine's FORCE conference in Beijing, reports from CNET and The Decoder suggest the model could roll out as early as this week, with testing site Testing Catalog pointing specifically to July 9. A landing page is already live on the Dreamina site, and ByteDance's CapCut teased the impending launch on July 4.
Breaking the 30-second barrier with 50 references
Seedance 2.5 tackles the biggest headache in generative video: clip length and continuity. The new model can produce a continuous 30-second 4K video clip from a single prompt, without any post-generation stitching.
Crucially, ByteDance says the model natively handles scene transitions and tempo shifts inside that single 30-second window. The previous generation, Seedance 2.0, also received an upgrade with support for native 4K and 10-bit color depth.
For filmmakers, the most practical leap might be the reference capacity. While Seedance 2.0 maxed out at 12 references, Seedance 2.5 lets creators feed in up to 50 inputs at once, spanning reference images, audio tracks, and videos. That makes directing a complex scene with multiple consistent characters finally feasible. Users can also edit generated clips after the fact while preserving the visual style and character likeness.
ByteDance also revealed several companion models at the same event, including the Doubao 2.1 Pro language model, Seedream 5.0 Pro for images, and Seed-Audio 1.0. Volcano Engine claims Doubao 2.1 Pro is priced roughly 80 percent lower than Claude Opus 4.6.
Why it matters
We think Seedance 2.5 represents a sharp shift from flashy short clips to actual production utility. Models from rivals have shown stunning five-second showcases, but maintaining visual coherence across camera cuts with multiple characters has remained nearly impossible in professional setups.
By allowing 50 reference inputs and post-generation visual editing, ByteDance is building a tool that fits into commercial creative pipelines. Content creators and production studios could legitimately use this to prototype storyboards or build full scenes without endlessly re-rolling prompts.
Yet the legal elephant in the room remains massive. Seedance 2.0 ran into heavy friction in the US earlier this year, facing pushback from Hollywood studios over training data and copyrighted works. As Seedance 2.5 delivers even more realistic output, copyright holders are likely to turn up the heat unless ByteDance can prove clean sourcing.
