ByteDance open-sources Lark CLI for AI agents
ByteDance just open-sourced Lark CLI under the MIT license, specifically designed for human developers and AI agents. It spans 18 enterprise domains—including Docs, Base, and Calendar—with over 200 curated commands. Why it matters: popular AI coding tools like Claude Code can now hook into and operate your entire Lark workspace with zero setup.
Lark CLI is an official open-source command-line tool from ByteDance, purpose-built for both developers and AI agents. It effectively turns the entire Lark workspace into a terminal-accessible interface, allowing tools like Claude Code to manipulate enterprise workflows out of the box.
What it does
The coverage is massive. It spans 18 core business domains—including Calendar, Messenger, Docs, Drive, Base, Sheets, Slides, Tasks, Wiki, Mail, and Meetings—with over 200 curated commands and dedicated AI Agent Skills.
Whether you need to schedule a meeting, update task lists, manage permissions, or query attendance and OKRs, everything can be executed straight from the command line.
More importantly, it is built agent-native. Commands have been optimized against real agents with concise arguments, smart defaults, and structured outputs to minimize hallucination and execution failure. Agents can even append .md to documentation URLs to fetch clean Markdown directly.
Under the hood and setup
The project is fully open source under the MIT license. If you have Node.js installed, setup takes one command via npx @larksuite/cli@latest install. Building from source is also supported if you have Go 1.23+ and Python 3 ready.
Under the hood, it uses a three-layer architecture: human and agent friendly Shortcuts at the top, platform-synced API commands in the middle, and raw low-level API calls at the base.
Security has not been overlooked. It includes input injection protection, terminal output sanitization, and stores credentials in your operating system's native keychain. Enterprise IT teams can also wrap the binary to plug in centralized vaults and audit logs without altering the source code.
Why it matters
The real barrier to enterprise agent adoption has rarely been raw LLM intelligence. It is the tedious work of writing glue code, handling OAuth, and parsing messy API payloads.
By flattening Lark's suite into clean CLI primitives and native agent skills, ByteDance makes it effortless for coding agents to act as genuine office assistants. If your team relies on Lark and you already spend your day inside terminal agents like Claude Code, it is definitely worth spinning up today.
