Arnold Schwarzenegger helps BMW debut its color-shifting robo-car
BMW just brought out Arnold Schwarzenegger at CES to unveil the i Vision Dee, an electric sports sedan designed around next-level human-machine interaction. While "Dee" stands for digital emotional experience, the standout feature is its electronic ink exterior, which can shift between patterns across 32 different colors.
Arnold Schwarzenegger just showed up at CES in Las Vegas to help BMW introduce its wild new AI-inspired concept car, the i Vision Dee.
A chameleon on wheels
The all-electric sports saloon is designed around what BMW calls the next level of human-machine interaction, with Dee standing for "digital emotional experience."
Its biggest party trick is on the outside. Using electronic ink, the vehicle can switch patterns across 32 different colors, shifting on demand between shades like purple, pink, yellow, white, and red.
BMW chief executive Oliver Zipse noted that the concept showcases what is possible when hardware and software merge. He also signaled that Dee provides clear clues for the styling of future compact BMW models.
Why it matters
Covering an entire car in 32-color e-ink is classic CES spectacle, but it points to a real shift in automotive design. Instead of just talking about horsepower or range, BMW is treating the vehicle's exterior as a dynamic canvas for software.
We think widespread production remains a stretch for now, given the obvious hurdles around durability, repair costs, and local road regulations. Still, it makes one thing clear: automakers are no longer content with keeping digital interaction trapped inside the cabin screens.
