Blockade Labs brings 8K 3D environments to Apple Vision Pro
Blockade Labs just upgraded its Skybox AI platform with Model 3, enabling creators to generate and download seamless 360-degree environments in 8K resolution. The new model packs 77% more pixels to target Apple Vision Pro headsets, alongside a new remix tool for existing panoramic images.

Skybox AI just got the high-res upgrade VR creators have been begging for.
Blockade Labs rolled out Model 3 for its 360-degree environment generator Skybox AI, bringing native 8K visual generation and export. According to CEO Marguerite deCourcelle, the new model packs 77% more pixels than Model 2, making generated worlds finally sharp enough for pixel-dense headsets like the Apple Vision Pro.
Alongside the fidelity bump, the team launched a new feature called Remix Your 360. Instead of starting from a text prompt or basic sketch, creators can now upload any existing 360-degree photo or render and let the AI restyle or alter it.
Since launching a year ago, Skybox AI has racked up more than 1.5 million users and generated over 10 million skyboxes. The platform now counts over 5,000 paying subscribers, with corporate users including Nvidia, Accenture, and T-Mobile using it for product demos. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang even gave the startup a nod during his Siggraph keynote last year.
The company is also working on direct integrations with game engines like Unity, targeting technical artists who dread manual environment and HDRI generation.
Why it matters
We think this upgrade is a massive deal for spatial developers who want to ship polished apps without spending weeks painting background domes.
On a standard monitor, a 4K panoramic image looks fine. But when stretched across a 360-degree sphere in high-resolution headsets like Vision Pro, low pixel density ruins the illusion instantly. Delivering true 8K outputs turns Skybox AI from a fun prototyping gimmick into a production-ready asset pipeline for indie devs, VR agencies, and architecture studios.
Blockade Labs has been remarkably smart about its product scope. Instead of trying to solve full interactive 3D scene generation all at once, it focused entirely on skyboxes, depth maps, and lighting environments—tedious assets that 3D artists hate building by hand.
The catch? A skybox is still fundamentally a backdrop. As spatial computing moves toward full 6DoF navigation, static 360-degree spheres will start showing parallax flaws if users walk around. To stay essential, Blockade will eventually have to bridge these high-res skyboxes with true 3D spatial meshes and volumetric rendering.
